Our aim is to provide value for your money

We are able to do this, we hope, because:

  1. We have always embraced the "farmers market" philosophy in our past and present businesses, encouraging direct sales and forming a lasting relationship directly with our customers.  Therefore almost all of our bookings are made directly with us and we will always quote our very best prices on this (our own) website.  If you are booking a vacation in New Zealand through an agent and wish to stay at Adrift, you will probably need to book directly with us.  Unlike most accommodation providers, we do not usually take agent booking, particularly in our high-season, as we would then need to increase our prices by 20 -25% to allow for agent commissions.  (We also find communicating through a third person (the travel agent) can sometimes be problematic.
  2. Adrift in Golden Bay is run almost entirely by members of our family who all aim to bring you the very best in personal service and most importantly, we enjoy what we do!
  3. We purchased this, our family property, more than 30 years ago when waterfront properties in Golden Bay cost a fraction of their present value.
  4. Over time we hope to eliminate expenses that do nothing to "add value" to your experience but rather spend money on continuing to develop our beach front retreat as a place which will bring relaxation, enjoyment and leave nothing but happy memories.

 

Seasonal Discounts and Longer Stay Discounts

Peak Season: a discount of roughly 10% is given on stays of 7 days or longer.  We are normally close to 100% fully booked well in advance but do offer "Last Minute Specials" of 10-20% discount on some remaining dates.

Shoulder Season:  A 25 to 35% discount on the Cottage rate and 15% to 20% on the Studio rate is automatically applied outside our peak season 15th December to 15th March, plus an additional discount of approximately 10% is given on stays of 7 days or longer..

Low Season:  Approximately 45% on the cottage rate and 30% on studio rate is given between 1st May and 31st August, plus an additional discount of approximately 10% on stays of 7 days or more. We close at some time during this period for a holiday and maintenance, the timing of this has not been decided yet for 2016 so bookings for June through to September are not possible yet, but check back later.

 

Booking Restrictions

  • Some dates have a minimum stay requirement.  As the date gets closer this requirement is reduced so that usually within the last 7 - 14 days we accept 1 night bookings.
  • If you wish to stay for a shorter time and cannot make a booking, please e-mail us or "send an enquiry" from the link on the booking page.  We can then advise you if and when a shorter booking might be possible.  We respond to all enquiries, usually within 12 hours.
  • Shorter stays may be slightly more expensive to allow for the extra cleaning cost involved in extra turn-overs.
  • To check if we are full on any particular night, view our "Availability Calendar" on the Availability and Bookings page.
  • Our aim is to provide you with a tranquil and relaxed environment.  We therefore only accept children 12 years of age and over.  The cost in this case is the same as an adult guest.
  • We do not allow dogs or other pets in any of the accommodation.  Good kennel facilities are available in Golden Bay for those travelling with pets that wish to stay.
  • Christmas Day - we do not do any check-ins, check-outs or servicing on Christmas Day.  Please also note that travelling in New Zealand on Christmas day can be more difficult; almost all cafes and even most supermarkets and gas stations are closed.

 

Cottage Rates

  • The cottages cost between NZ$200 and NZ$540 per night, depending on the season, length of stay, and which cottage.
  • The cottages are designed as a luxurious accommodation for two people, but can accommodate an extra person sleeping on a comfortable pull-out couch settee in the living room.  The cost for the extra guest is NZ$80/night and includes extra breakfast provisions, linen and towels.

 

The Studio Rates

The cost of The Studio for two people varies between NZ$190 and NZ$320 per night, depending on the season and length of stay.

Book Direct & Long Stay Discounts

To receive the direct booking discount of 10%, click on the "BOOK NOW" button, then click the dark grey banner at the booking screen and enter the code "direct10" before entering your dates.  The discounted rates will then be displayed. 

A further discount of approximately 10% is given on stays of 7+ nights.  The discount is automatically applied as you change the number of nights on your reservation.

 

 

Rate Options

Inclusive Rate:  Includes a daily hamper of fresh breakfast provisions for an English or Continental breakfast.  Daily housekeeping service. Fresh milk, teas, ground coffee.

Independent Rate:  Includes fresh milk, teas, and ground coffee. Fresh towels are offered every 2nd day for bookings of 4 nights or longer (or more often on request).  For Independent stays that exceed 7 days, one complimentary housekeeping service will be offered per week.

 

 

Minimum Stay

Peak Season (Summer): 

From 24th December 2024 - 15th March 2025, a four-night minimum stay is required.  Some shorter stays will be possible if they fill gaps between bookings. These are usually bookable online if available, however, we cannot show them all so if you'd like to stay 2 or 3 nights and it isn't possible online, please contact us to see if it's possible.  Online bookings for next summer are possible until 28th Feb 2025. Please contact us if you want to book after this date.

Shoulder and Low Seasons: Outside of the peak season the minimum stay is 2 nights. We will be closed from 8th July - 25th August.

Terms & Conditions

  • We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee for any total or partial cancellations.  If a cancellation is made before 60 days of your arrival date: this fee will be a maximum of one night's accommodation for bookings up to 7 nights.  For bookings that total 8 or more nights, this will be a maximum of one-third of the total cost of the booking.  If a cancellation is made within 60 days of your arrival date: a maximum of 100% of the total booking price may be charged.  If we can partly fill the vacancy left by a cancellation we will only charge a cancellation fee for the nights remaining vacant plus any extra costs incurred in re-booking the accommodation.  We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance in case of any unforeseen circumstances, including those travelling domestically   *Low/Shoulder Season 2024 free cancellation* For bookings made directly on our website after 4th March 2024, for stays up until 1st November 2024, no cancellation fee will be charged and your booking deposit will be refunded if you need to cancel your reservation and do so at least 48 hours before your stay commences.
  • A booking deposit is charged to your credit card at the time of the booking.  For bookings up to 7 nights, this will be one night's accommodation.  For bookings that total 8 or more nights, this will be one-third of the total cost of the booking.  The remaining payment is made at the time of your stay by either Eftpos, Visa, MasterCard or cash.  A valid credit card is required at the time of check-in this may be charged to cover the cost of any property damage or excessive cleaning if the room requires this on departure.
  • We reserve the right to increase or decrease future prices from those originally posted, but the price given at the time of booking will always be the price that is charged.
